If you’re an aspiring Model– Agents (and many Clients, too) don’t judge you by the best photo in your portfolio. They eliminate you by the worst. Even more important… they want to see your natural appearance without makeup. And that’s what digitals are for! Fun fact: digitals used to be Polaroids like these of 3 supers above (Chanel, Liu, and Cara). They used physical, printed photos because the top agencies wanted a level playing field and clients wanted to ensure Models weren’t cheating with retouching or airbrushing.
Agents see SO many hopefuls; they’re not looking for what’s beautiful about you. They’re looking for what’s NOT.
ON THE FLIP SIDE…
What’s more? Even after you have an agent, you'll still need DIY digital skills to be able to send to clients. Clients often ask for images that show “what you look like now.” So even if you get an agent…
I grew up seeing my stunning and awesome grandmother, Millie Lewis, launch new stars into the modeling and acting worlds. Her first big success story, Andee MacDowell, is still famous all these years later, and now her daughter, Margaret Qualley, is a rising star, which is a fun legacy of their own!
Millie, or Mimi as I called her, was a top model in New York in the 1940s. When she finished modeling to get married and start a family, people kept asking her how they could do what she had done, model professionally. So she started her first talent school and modeling agency in 1960.
My mother, Carey Lewis, followed her mother into business and launched many stars into fashion, film, music, and theater through the most respected talent showcase in the world, which was in operation from 1982 - 2018. (In 2020, we co-founded Shine Talent Success, an online career coaching company for actors. You can read more about our programs at shine.us.)
After graduating from college, I took my lifelong experience in the industry, observing what it takes for stars to rise, and I interned at a top 10 modeling agency in NYC.
After my internship, I began a 16-year career as a fashion, celebrity, and advertising photographer by taking photos of rising models for every major agency in NY, plus in L.A., Paris, and other markets. I went on to work for many top magazines, record labels, and brands, including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Bloomingdale’s, and Vaseline.

There are tons of digital examples from signed models, so you can check outfits, poses, and expressions to ensure you’re nailing your own and get ideas!
No! It is also information that will help lifestyle models, plus models, male models, mature models, petite models, child models, and anyone interested in print work, no matter your look, age, size, or type!
It will take you just about an hour to watch and read all the materials! And you’ll have access to them for as long as you like.
After you’ve done the course, I recommend planning out your outfits, selecting your location, and checking your lighting. Then, you should ask a technically-competent friend or family member to help. Or a 6’ tripod or phone stand and self-timer works well too.
I do NOT recommend you hire a photographer to shoot your digitals unless they shoot for TOP agencies.
You’ll receive an email confirmation. If you don’t get it, please email glynis@glyniscarpenter.com for help asap! Then you’ll get access to a private member area where the materials live.
I do, in fact, offer remote digital shoots. You can purchase one here. They include a pre-consultation over Facetime or Zoom to select our location and outfits.
